Psychotherapy groups can be powerful tools for healing. Sharing thoughts and feelings with others in a safe and trusting environment, and learning that others have gone through similar experiences can be an enormous relief!
Groups can help us find our path through difficult circumstances. They can help us be more in touch with the world around us — we learn that as we open and deepen our connection to each other, our connection to the world opens and deepens as well. We find that not only can we learn from others, but that others can learn from us.
In the Fall of 2010, I will begin a group that will explore mindfulness meditation and stress reduction. This group will study how the insights offered by Buddhist psychology can combine with techniques from Western psychotherapy to decrease stress and work with strong emotions, such as anxiety, lonliness, and fear.
Between now and then, however, I teach a monthly Learn to Meditate at the Washington DC Shambhala Center on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 pm (May 12, June 9, July 14), and on Monday, July 12 will begin a five week class at the Shambhala Center called Meditation in Everyday Life . Both of these are open to all levels of experience. Please click on the link for the address and more information.
