Groups and Workshops

Psychotherapy groups can be powerful tools for healing. Sharing thoughts and feelings with others in a safe and trusting environment, and learning that others have gone through similar experiences can be an enormous relief!

Groups can help us find our path through difficult circumstances. They can help us be more in touch with the world around us — we learn that as we open and deepen our connection to each other, our connection to the world opens and deepens as well. We find that not only can we learn from others, but that others can learn from us.

Here are some upcoming opportunities for groups and workshops:

Recovering Sanity: Starting on Thursday, Januay 12, I will be co-leading a six week group with Scott Perkins (who started the Heart of Recovery program here in DC – see below for his bio), entitled “Recovering Sanity.”  This group will meet on Thursday evenings from 7 – 8:30 pm to explore the tools of mindfulness and the teachings of Buddhism and their application to recovering from addictions.  This group is specifically for those who are actively involved in their recovery, either from a substance or a behavior.

Scott Perkins has been a teacher and leader in the Shambhala Buddhist community for over 12 years. He received his master’s degree in Buddhist Studies from Naropa University and has worked in with mental health, homelessness, and child welfare since 1993. A recovering alcoholic, he is active in exploring the intersection between the path of meditation and the path of sobriety.

Learn to Meditate: I teach a monthly Learn to Meditate at the Washington DC Shambhala Center on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 pm.   Please click on the link for the address and more information.
